Join us for the first cross-macroregional event on smart rural development in Sofia (BG) on 24 March 2026. The event is organised by representatives from all 4 macro-regional strategies and the Horizon project SMART ERA and will address what it takes to support successful and smart rural development and how we can bring our vision into concrete action.
Under the motto ‘Bridging Vision and Action: Smart Rural Development That Leaves No Region Behind‘ we want to:
- discuss with you the future of (smart) rural development,
- demonstrate good practices of evidence-based decision-making, and
- share and test approaches for smart rural development.

- inspiring good practices
- numerous opportunities for networking
Agenda and registration
The event scheduled for March 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will feature several panels on smart communities and territorial cohesion in European rural regions, as well as an Interactive Guided Workshop.
The workshop offers participants the opportunity to test the Smart Innovation Package approach, gaining a clearer understanding of how rural challenges can be addressed through this methodology.
