ITALY

Trentino

LA TUA COMUNITÀ,
IL NOSTRO FUTURO

Trentino is Italy’s northernmost region, and it is almost completely mountainous (the southern part of the Alps).

Val di Sole, nestled in the north-western part of Trentino, comprises 13 municipalities and hosts a resident population of 15,511 individuals. Despite the picturesque setting, this area grapples with an aging population, predominantly engaged in agriculture and tourism.

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES:
KEY CHALLENGES IN TRANSITIONING TO THE SMART ERA

  •  The valley is remote and isolated, with long, narrow stretches covered in forests, leading to challenges in accessing essential services.
  •  The area  is sparsely populated, with stranded communities cut off from large urban centers providing services.
  • The average age of inhabitants is higher compared to provincial and national averages, posing challenges for workforce participation and economic growth.
  • The primary sectors of employment are agriculture and tourism, which may not provide sufficient economic diversity and stability.

Targets

Social Care and Services will be involved, specifically Education and Mobility.

Who will be a part of the change?

Local residents, local municipalities (mayors), valley communities, local associations, volunteer associations, social cooperatives, third sector, schools (especially VET) | 40-50% of the total residents’ population.
