Session: Digital Lifelines for Left-Behind Regions: reviving rural potential through smart tools
On 15 October, SMART ERA partners Emilija Stojmenova Duh from University of Ljubljana (speaker), Matteo Gerosa from Fondazione Bruno Kessler and Alessandro Lué from Poliedra (facilitatoes) participated in the ‘Digital Lifelines for Left-Behind Regions: Reviving Rural Potential Through Smart Tools‘ workshop at the 2025 European Week of Cities and Regions.
The session addressed the issue of rural areas losing people, services and economic opportunities, and what can be done about it. Drawing on the insights of two rural research projects — PREMIUM_EU and SMART ERA — it explored practical solutions to these issues. Through panels and live demonstrations, the speakers explored how digital tools can help to develop evidence-based strategies, secure targeted funding, and build resilient communities.
