An overview of civic engagement tools for rural communities

A new paper, “An overview of civic engagement tools for rural communities” has been published by SMART ERA researchers.

The work explores the role of civic engagement platforms in rural areas. The research examines the key characteristics of these platforms and their impact on rural communities, with an overview to identify key challenges and the functionality required to address them. Ultimately, the findings show that the long-term capability of these civic engagement platforms can bring about beneficial changes in rural areas by providing a unified way of communicating, collaborating and making decisions.

“Our experience suggests that these tools can effectively support collaborative strategies, helping rural communities address challenges they are currently facing, like depopulation and diminished public services”.
