Trentino is Italy’s northernmost region, and it is almost entirely mountainous (the southern part of the Alps).
Val di Sole is located in the north-western part of Trentino and comprises 13 municipalities with a total population of 15,511. Despite its picturesque setting, and a unique enviromental heritage, this area struggles with an ageing population, most of whom are engaged in agriculture and tourism.
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES:
KEY CHALLENGES IN TRANSITIONING TO THE SMART ERA
- Raising awareness in the community of environmental assets and their potential, and educating the young generations
- Developing a slower tourism, connected to local dynamics
- Developing the area’s productive potential related to agri-food
- Understand the value of the ecosystem services provided by the Val di Sole landscape
- Enhance the health and well-being aspects of living in a place with these characteristics
Targets
Enviroment and landscape, in terms of forestry, agriculture, livestock farming, agrifood, and slow tourism.
Who will be a part of the change?
Local residents, local municipalities (mayors), valley communities, local associations, volunteer associations, social cooperatives, third sector, schools (especially VET) | 40-50% of the total residents’ population.
